The Serenity Series, Letter1: All Understanding

This is the beginning of Part 2 of the Letters to Mankind, and the start of the Serenity Series Letter 1 of 3.

Is there a Devil that rests in all of us? Is there something within our worldly nature in which we have adopted to make us all strangers to a perfect order? Many of us neglect the common fact that we are creatures whom are bent and henceforth driven by knowledge. Not a precedent for what shall and shall not be given leave, however we contain precedent only of what might and might not be given leave.

This is a delicate fashion in which we have treaded for so many years now. What holds us to this tyranny of blindness may only be described as irony. How may we have for years, come thus far on “maybe”? We knew not and yet we trusted. We saw not and yet we read clear into the future. We felt-not but yet we perceived.

How can we jump centuries to and through centuries in the darkness of our imperfection, but we refuse to traverse in the darkness of Light? How may we revoke our contradictions and not only persevere in what we are “able to guide”, but also persevere in what we cannot imagine or perceive? How shall we be when we are recognized astray in a realm we cannot alter?

Reflection

As everybody knows in the modern world that hasn’t been living under a rock for the  last 15years knows that tomorrow is 9/11, and the importance, rather the significance, 9/11 was significant not important( important denotes something that needed to be done) anyway, anyone with the right mind knows about what tomorrow is all about. And then, every blogger in the world therefore almost has an obligation to post something about, so here are my musings.

It seems somewhat crazy to think about that it has already been ten years from that event, however it seems even more ridiculous what has occurred within those ten years. Let’s take a second. Think about all of the news within the last ten years concerning politics, foreign policy and think about all of the mess and problems that have been going on.

It’s quite interesting to look at all the hell that people have given both Bush and Pres. Obama and now that it’s 9/11 eve everybody wants to act all patriotic and victimized. Now, everybody is all of a sudden on track with Homeland Security and once again looking at foreigners with disdain. It’s quite interesting that terrorism can bring a nation together and completely turn it over simultaneously. It can bring out patriotism, and the ills of nationalism both. Terrorism is a large part of the world and noticeably effective so then why can’t love be as well?

We can be so greatly affected by an act of evilness but we can be  so easily torn apart on the level of love. It seems as though America as a whole is allowing terrorism to take a  foothold and outweigh compassion and love.

Now, I’m not saying terrorism is not a problem because it definitely is, but the question is how are we as a country letting it either control or teach a lesson to grow from in the U.S. historical life? So the question to think about is, has America learned from the event or has it and is it still controlling the US. Post  your response.

PS: Deepest condolences to all victims and families of the attacks.

Military Matters

This post here is the topic that I actually intended to do today until the Michelle Bachmann incursion.

Today I wanted to give my two cents on the United States Military, which in my admittedly biased opinion is AWESOME, but from my non-perspective ROTC mind,  I still am forced to support that the U.S. Armed Forces are pretty damned good.

But my goal here isn’t to simply give the Army props but I want to go into the course of anti-military American protesters and radicals. Please do note, not antiwar activists but anti-military activist. As crazy as that may seem (actually in this day and age I suppose it doesn’t) but there are quite a score if American citizens that hold a large amount of contempt and disdain for the U.S. Military.

Which to these batch of individuals, most wonder why and for what? Well, there are two prongs to this fork: one is that many directly correlate the brutality of war as being the military itself, and also they fail to recognize that the military doesn’t choose to go to war, but instead Congress does.

The best example of these aforementioned statements would definitely have to be in accordance to the Vietnam War era and post-era and the War in Iraq.  Now there is about a half-century time span between these things so it might raise how those two are remotely related to each other, but honestly keep reading and you’ll see how this is one of the best examples  of the axiom “history repeats itself”. What I’m getting at is the following.

The Vietnam War, it can only be described as a mess. Simply because the whole instance was to combat the IDEA of communism as a branch of the amorphous Cold War. But right now I’m not getting in the whole history of the war, that quite frankly is somewhat irrelevant. The major point is that during the era, strong upheaval against the war effort soon evolved into riotous behavior against the military. Information explained, (from a video I watched in my H1302 class concerning new-age trends of the Vietnam War-era) many began to slander them by calling them baby killers, signs saying “thou shalt not murder” and things like the sort.

Keep that in mind, now we move on to the next example, the ‘current’ war in Iraq, it too started in order to fight terrorism, which alike is not a concrete force to fight militarily. So that is a historical repeat, second, this war also evoked large number of distaste. Here, is what the best example of radicalism: The Westboro Baptist ”Church” and if you don’t know what they are, I encourage you to google it and be shocked. But a quick dissertation, they are a group of crazed people who literally hate America and the military, and somehow claim to be prophets. They walk around with signs that say stuff like “God hates America”, “Thank God for 9-11” and other really messed up stuff of the sort.

Many appeal to agree that these people obviously don’t need to live in America if that is how they really feel, but again AMERICA is a free country that gives us the luxury to disrespect it if we so choose. And here is where I begin my point. History obviously repeated in theory, but this is the quandary. American freedoms from the start of the nation were made possible by the U.S. military. The military provides freedoms that otherwise U.S. civilians would not be able to enjoy without their sacrifices. For example, had any of these protesters been residents of Russia or perhaps China, the movements would never have been started or entertained from being quelled by federal censorship, and furthermore, the U.S. is one of the few countries that does not mandate military service foe every person.

It seems utterly appalling at the outright contempt that some of these people have to call the military men and women ‘murderers‘. Now this is the case. Well, is war really the same thing that breaks moral and religious orthodoxy of taking lives? Socially, it is perceived that murder is a vicious crime against humanity. Religiously, of course — I feel safe to say– all religions state that actual murder is wrong. Scientifically, there are medical conditions that obscure an unstable mental state that can lead to violent actions thus making them unaware of their actions in the moment–thus providing the grey area. None of these three yet however answer our question, so to ask again, are military actions considered murder in cases of war.

Merriam-Webster defines murder as: [killing] (a human being) unlawfully and with premeditated malice.

Note, the word premeditated and malice.

Next, on a similar note–speaking from a Biblical standpoint because I have not done extensive research into other religions on this matter– many of times throughout the Bible did God authorize war amongst groups of people and so forth.(If you don’t believe me, it’s true look it up)

Back to the dictionary definition, which falls under the science category. Premeditated and Malice, are the key. War mindset is totally different from feeling hatred towards a person and wanting to kill them out of self-will as opposed to being in a kill-or-be-killed environment. On an added note and bonus, many of times, war happens for just causes such as freedom and liberation.

Here is an interesting take, society –as a general whole– seems to be the most intuitive on the topic. Social opinion is formulated by  religious and scientific and logical input. Which discerns that war combat is not the same as a gang fight shoot out over red or blue and drug debt.

Therefore by that analysis, war combat does not equal cold-blooded murder THE MAJORITY  of the time. I’m sure there are instances when soldiers on either force does in fact murder, but as a whole war is not meant for murder. As a ping-back, to a previous comment I made, the military does not choose to go to war, Congress does, and the general public elect these congressmen and representative, so by that token, the people themselves are ”choosing” to be in war. It can be safely and indisputably said that nobody likes war, and war is not fun or entertaining–in real life.

In conclusion, if one feels the need to express discontent, don’t attack the military men and women who are protecting the country, attack the war itself and support an ending to it. That’s all, remember to respect the brave men and women of the armed forces.

Fear, Judgement, Acceptance. Be Beautiful.

So it’s kinda late but all day I had no topic that I really felt a big enough conviction to talk about so nothing got scrawled down because I honestly think–despite how well I can BS almost anything– I have a condition that prevents me from spewing random stuff and that I honestly hold to less than zero esteem. BUT I digress, something came to me and inspiration obeys no time frame so here we go.

At first I really didn’t want to get into the whole “stuff” of the Simply an Intro series but honestly I got a little impatient so I had to start! Unfortunately, this is going to touch on a couple of things from personal experience which at first I was intending to avoid, but since this is blog so what the hell eh?

Ok my thoughts exactly were this –try not to get lost– “Have you ever had that feeling where you knew in your heart that you needed to do something but fore whatever reason you were either afraid  or just couldn’t do something about it?” well right about now that’s been an interesting and touchy feeling that I figure a lot of people have. Fear. Fear of society…Fear of themselves… Fear of being accepted. Honestly it’s probably more than safe to say that everyone has felt like that at one point in time or another but it is also is more than safe to say that that is in higher volume for those people who aren’t ‘normal’, for those who are a little bit different.

Concerning this, in which most of us have seen the issues and the controversy surrounding the topic and what the sentence before was referencing directly was the niche of homosexuality. As you know and if you don’t I seriously question what world you live in, but for those of you that do know, it is a very controversial issue– rather topic, because people make it an issue when it really shouldn’t be– that is growing and reaching radical heights and honestly needs to be recognized.

There are always points that I like to make within each post and here they are. Number 1: if you read A Step Further, you are a little familiar with the triad logical conclusion of right and wrong. But as a recap (and if you don’t understand still, go check it out and THEN come back to this) it states in short that there are 3 main factors to developing an accurate philosophy and those are religion, society, and science. And each one is reliant  upon the fact/statement of the other two in order to make something right or wrong however most end up being what is called the “grey area”. So moving on, the subject of ‘is “gay” okay?’

So as you know that this has been

in hot debate in this 21st century era. You have so many people who hate the thought or even the concept and do radical hate actions, which really lead to the question if the USA really past discrimination, which is obviously ‘no’, but more on that a little later. To answer the question whether it is right or wrong I feel it would be only sensible to angle it and use the Triangle Theory.

Let’s take on religion first. From religious perspective, (from hardcore religious perspective not reformed thinkers or realists) from that religious perspective it is so common for them to say that it is sinful, wrong and condemned. Actually I was watching an episode of Tyra and she had a guest who had had an exorcism because he was “gay”. So obviously religious authorities have a problem with it. I’ll argue their standpoint after getting the framework laid here. Therefore on the matter, they view that it is ‘black’.

Next we’ll touch on liberally based society. There are tons of homosexuals and supporters in the general society so it’s no doubt that the solitary society sector has no real problem with it. So that way they view that it is ‘white’.

However, lastly science. Now science usually will qualify those two points but in this case doesn’t really. I’m sure you’ve heard that homosexuality is a choice, and you’ve probably also heard that it isn’t a choice (which I personally believe). There has been study after study and most research has been to say the least inconclusive on the matter. So instead of qualifying the two science thus far is almost completely ruled out leaving you with two polar opposites. Society which says “Hell Yeah” and religion which says “Repent!”

Sure that’s great…so lets look at the facts. In respects to religion, there are a lot of things in religion mainly Christianity that are so misinterpreted and under-observed that it’s not even funny, and the matter of homosexuality is one of them. For one, as I stated earlier that this is 2011, times have changed and perhaps even the particulars of certain topics. Things that were applied back then may not necessarily fully apply now. The example I gave was divorce, but here I’ll give adultery. Back then, they stoned the adulteress (yes the woman, not the man) now how many people do you see being stoned? And yes that is in some of the pretext of the Bible if I’m not mistaken that that is the punishment for actions. So are we breaking scripture because we’re not stoning the chick off of Cheaters? I would like to say not. Just with homosexuality I feel is in the same boat.

Another major counter to religious appeal is the matter of suicide. Religion is the main reason for the social non-acceptance which leads so many to suicide. (Of course suicide is by personal accord and therefore cannot be blamed on a second party) but If there had to be a reason you asked a person who was so called gay the reason for which they might’ve thought of suicide that I’m sure would be the number 1 thing.

Moving on, to science. (no i didn’t forget society, it’s just kind of so jacked up so it’ll be more than a mess trying to understand every little opinion.) On the topic of science I’m going to raise my Number 2 point, which is why i always put the word “gay” in quotes. Let’s get that out of the way first. Personally labels aren’t my thing so “gay”, “bi” “straight” whatever, it’s just another way for  people to judge others and therefore are stems of more problems but must be used in order to make clear a topic because that’s what people understand.

More  importantly on science is if homosexuality is  a  choice. My first reaction to that is honestly…I  have no reaction to that because in all means it’s a valid question but as Davey Wavey said, (and I paraphrase) that’s like asking if heterosexuality is a choice. Thus in those respects no, it’s not. And I personally, figure that you love who you love regardless of it they are male or female, and one shouldn’t be persecuted for that. And when I say that people always then ask me if I’m gay, and then I tell them the same thing I just said. In all honesty, in the general worlds perception of “gay” as an attraction wise thing then yes I am, but philosophically no.

Another thing that takes me aback is the fact that so many people would rather have an abusive heterosexual couple in society than a homosexual pair that actually care and love each other and quite frankly that’s really appalling to think about.

My whole point is this. Everyone at sometime will figure out who they really are and face society/religious persecution–like me but that’s another story– and what the point is that fear has too strong of a hold. I know it isn’t easy to let go of it, but in order to be true to oneself you have to let that fear go and be beautiful as you are. I think Mother Monster put it best. “No matter gay, straight or bi lesbian, transgender life I’m on the right track…I was born to survive…I was born to be brave!” Remember for all the religious radicals out there who try to discourage you. “[you] are beautiful in [your] way ‘cuz God makes no mistakes” (p.s that doesn’t mean you can do whatever the hell you want to). Just remember don’t be afraid. You ARE beautiful little you!
